Coronavirus (COVID-19) Seven Hundred Fifty-Eighth Update, Monday, April 4, 2022

Albany County’s COVID-19 dashboard indicated that there were 38 new positive cases overnight in the County, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 63,393 positive cases.  The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases decreased from 53.2 to 44.6 cases.  The number of County residents in the hospital due to COVID-19 symptoms remained at 13 patients, with one patient remaining in the ICU.  The County’s pandemic death toll remained at 538.

State DOH reported that the County’s rate for one vaccine dose as of yesterday was 81.5% of the County’s total population and 89.8% of the adult population, and the County’s rate for full-vaccination was 74.3% of the total population, and for boosters was 65.0% of the eligible population.  The State’s rate for one dose was 89.6% for the total population and 95.0% of adults, and the State’s rate for full-vaccination was 76.3% for the total population, and for boosters was 56.4% of the eligible population.

The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 74,355 tests Statewide were 2,553 or 3.4% positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 3.0%.  The Capital Region had 2,613 tests of which 96 or 3.7% were positive, with the seven-day average remaining at 3.9%.  The County had 722 tests of which 38 or 5.3% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 4.5%.

In her update today, Governor Hochul reported the State’s COVID-19 data, including yesterday’s positive rate for tests (3.43%), hospitalizations (836, +11), new COVID-19 hospital admissions (99), ICU patients (120, -5), intubations (48, -3), and deaths (11).  The Governor also shared a photo of her receiving a second COVID-19 booster shot this afternoon.  She noted that her first shot was a J&J vaccine in March, 2021, followed by a Moderna vaccine in October, 2021, and Pfizer shot today.  It is a rare vaccine trifecta.

The Governor also announced the launch of "Cannabis Conversations," the State's new public health education campaign on cannabis to inform the public on the State's Cannabis Law, including who can consume, where to consume, and how to consume safely. The Governor added that the new Cannabis Law focuses on public health and is grounded in the principles of public safety, social justice, and equitable economic development designed to help undo the harm caused by cannabis prohibition.  The law requires public health education campaigns that inform New Yorkers of the new law and the impact of cannabis use on public health and safety.

There was a somewhat obvious misprint in the Parks & Rec Department’s brochure about the upcoming school break program.  The correct dates for the April Break Fun N Games are Tuesday, April 19 thru Friday, April 22 during this year’s school break.  Sorry for the confusion.  Here is the link where you can find details about the school break program, and other upcoming spring activities including Country Line Dancing, Yoga for Teens, and Bird Walk at the Community Gardens.

Thank you for staying safe and calm.
