Crime Blotter for the Week of March 27 - April 2, 2022

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of March 27, 2022 - April 02, 2022.        
 
March 27, 2022

March 28, 2022
  • Burglary (Commercial):
1740 Huntington Drive (Kim & Lee Hair Salon). Between 03/26/22 at 9:00 pm and 03/28/22 9:00 am suspect(s) unknown cut the lock off the location and ransacked the business. Loss was approximately $400. No video surveillance available.
  • Burglary (Vehicle):
802 Buena Vista Street (Monte Vista Health). Between 03/27/22 at 3:40 pm and 03/28/22 at 12:09 am suspect(s) unknown shattered the rear passenger window to the victims 2021 white Honda Civic and stole the victims’ “Louis Vuitton” purse. Loss was approximately $4,000. No video surveillance available.

  • Grand theft:
1400 block of Fairlee Avenue. On 03/29/22 at 2:30 am suspect(s) unknown stole the catalytic converter to the victims parked vehicle a green 2009 Toyota Prius. Loss was approximately $1,200. No surveillance video available.
 
March 30, 2022
  • Grand theft:
1600 Mountain Avenue (Walmart). On 03/30/22 at 8:18 pm suspect unknown described as a male white adult 5’09” thin build wearing a black hat, black jacket, dark colored pants and wearing a blue facemask, entered the location and walked directly to the electronics department.  The suspect selected 5 laptops from an unlocked display case and walked out of the location without attempting to pay for the items. Loss prevention followed the suspect and was able to retrieve 4 of the stolen laptops prior to the suspect getting away. Value of stolen items was approximately $2,200 and Loss was approximately $500. Surveillance video available.

2600 Block of Bloomdale Street. On 03/31/22 between 5:00 am to 5:30 am suspect(s) unknown stole the catalytic converter to the victims parked vehicle a white 2015 Nissan. Loss was approximately $2,300. No surveillance video available.
  • Grand theft:
1500 Block of Third Street. Between 03/29/22 2:00 am and 03/31/22 9:50 am suspect(s) unknown stole the catalytic converter to the victims parked vehicle a silver 2022 Honda Accord. Loss was approximately $1,200. No surveillance video available.
  • Grand theft:
2200 Block of Maynard Drive. Between 03/30/22 and 5:00 pm and 03/31/22 7:00 pm suspect(s) unknown stole the catalytic converter to the victims parked vehicle a white 2015 Nissan van. Loss was approximately $2,000. No surveillance video available.
  • Grand theft:
2600 Block of Maynard Drive. Between 03/30/22 8:00 pm and 03/31/33 6:00 am suspect(s) unknown stole the catalytic converter to the victims parked vehicle a black 2002 Honda Accord. Loss was approximately $1,200. No surveillance video available.
  • Grand theft:
2300 Block of Huntington Drive. On 03/31/22 5:29am suspect(s) unknown driving a black 4 door BMW and a white 4 door BMW stole the catalytic converter to the victims parked vehicle a gold 2006 Honda Accord. Loss was approximately $950. No surveillance video available.
 
April 01, 2022
  • Burglary (Commercial):
1335 Huntington Drive (Rite Aid).  On 04/01/22 at 8:18 pm suspect unknown described as a male white adult wearing a red “Cincinnati Reds” baseball hat, red and white plaid button up shirt, blue jeans, entered the location and walked directly to the rear of the store to the warehouse and to the supervisor’s office.  The suspect kicks open the door and takes the contents of an employee’s handbag and the contents of the store safe.  The suspect than flees the location and enters an unknown white vehicle.  Loss was unknown at time of report. Surveillance video available.
 
April 02, 2022
  • Grand theft:
1000 Block of Juniper Drive. On 04/02/22 at 3:48 am suspect(s) unknown driving a dark sedan stole the catalytic converter to the victims parked vehicle a white 2018 Toyota Tacoma. Loss was approximately $1,000. No surveillance video available.
  • Grand theft:
1470 Mountain Avenue (Best Buy). On 04/02/22 at 3:57 pm suspect unknown described as a male white adult 5’11” heavy set wearing a black “Raiders” sweater and camouflage shorts, entered the location and walked directly to the electronics department.  The suspect removed the security alarm from a Samsung S22 cell phone and waited several minutes to see if employees would respond to the alarm. The suspect placed the phone in his pocket, where he walked out of the location without attempting to pay for the item. Loss was approximately $1,000. Surveillance video available.

Cyber Crime Security (Part Two):
  • Secure your Mobile Devices- Be aware that your mobile device is vulnerable to viruses and hackers. Download applications from trusted sources.  Install the latest operating system updates.
  • Protect your Data- Use encryption for your most sensitive files, such as tax returns or financial records. Make regular backups of all your important data, and store it in another location.
  • Secure your wireless network- Wi-Fi (wireless) networks are vulnerable to intrusion if they are not adequately secured.  Public Wi-Fi, aka “Hot Spots”, are also vulnerable. Avoid conducting financial or corporate transactions on these networks.
  • Protect your identity-  Be cautious when giving out personal information such as your name, address, phone number, or financial information on the internet, make sure the websites are secure.
  • Avoid being scammed- Always think before you click on a link or file of unknown origin.  Don’t feel pressured by any emails.  Check the source of the message. Never reply to emails that ask you to verify your information or confirm your user ID or password.
