Deputies are Seeking the Public's Assistance in Locating Missing Diamond Bar Man, 28-year-old Derrick Kwan

INCIDENT: Missing Person/Search and Rescue
LOCATION: Highway 138, west of Crestline Cutoff Rd, in the area of Crestline.
MISSING PERSON: Derrick Kwan, 27-year-old male, Los Angles County Resident.
SUMMARY: On March 27, 2022, an officer from the California Highway Patrol saw two vehicles and two subjects on SR-138 in a turnout, changing a tire on a vehicle. The officer spoke with the subjects and confirmed they were not in need of assistance. Approximately 40 minutes later, the officer received a report of a single-vehicle traffic collision in the area of SR 138, west of Crestline Cutoff Road, in Crestline. The vehicle involved in the collision was one of the vehicles the officer saw earlier in the turnout and was registered to Derrick Kwan. Witnesses at the scene of the traffic collision reported a subject matching Kwan’s description had been driving the vehicle, but fled the scene carrying large bags. A traffic collision report was taken and the vehicle was towed. The CHP officer confirmed by photograph that Kwan was one of the subjects he contacted earlier, in the turnout. The CHP officer conducted an area check for Kwan but was unable to locate him.
On March 28, 2022, Kwan was reported missing to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. He was last seen by his father on March 26, 2022, at their residence in Diamond Bar.
On March 31, 2022, Kwan was reported missing to the San Bernardino Police Department. It was reported that Kwan was last seen on March 27, 2022 in the Crestline area.
On March 31, 2022, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department-Twin Peaks Station was notified of Kwan's missing person status. Deputies from Twin Peaks Station conducted an area check for Kwan, but were unable to locate him.
On April 3, 2022, members of the Rim of the World Search and Rescue Team searched the area where Kwan was last seen but were unable to locate him. The search was suspended due to weather and only part of the planned search was completed.
On April 5, 2022, members of the Rim of the World Search and Rescue Team again searched the area for signs of Kwan, to no avail. Deputies and volunteers from the Twin Peaks Sheriff's Station circulated a recent photograph of Kwan with residents and businesses to ask if he had been seen.
Kwan's whereabouts are unknown at this time.
