License Plate Recognition Camera Hit Results In Arrest For Possession Of A Stolen Vehicle.
On Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at approximately 2:57PM, the Sausalito Police Department received an alert from our License Plate Recognition Cameras of a stolen vehicle entering Sausalito from the 4000 block of Bridgeway. The vehicle, a 2008 Toyota Sienna, had been stolen out of Fremont on Monday, April 4, 2022.
Sausalito Police Officers immediately responded and conducted a comprehensive search of the area. Detective James Fotherby located the Toyota and effected a traffic stop in the 2600 block of Bridgeway. Officers removed and detained the driver and sole occupant, Weerawat Pleinnikul (52-year-old resident of Fremont).
Pleinnikul was arrested for possession of the stolen vehicle and booked into the Marin County Jail.
Since the City of Sausalito’s License Plate Recognition Camera program became operational on Thursday, May 18, 2017, sixty-four (64) stolen vehicles have been recovered and seventy (70) individuals have been arrested for various crimes. The goal of the License Plate Recognition Camera program is to increase public safety by utilizing technology to alert Law Enforcement to wanted vehicles, enhance post-crime investigative abilities, and deter crime by increasing the likelihood of suspect identification.
