Charges: Robbery (211 PC) and Brandishing an Imitation Firearm (417.4 PC)
On Sunday, February 20, 2022, at approximately 8:15 pm, Petaluma police officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Casa Grande Road for a robbery report. Officers arrived on scene and spoke to the victim who stated he was robbed at gunpoint. The victim stated while he was seated in his vehicle, an unknown white male with long hair approached him, brandished a firearm, and demanded money of him. The victim gave the male suspect money to which he (suspect) left the scene in a vehicle. Officers canvassed the area and were unable to locate the suspect.
On Tuesday, April 8, 2022, at approximately 10:04 pm, Petaluma police officers were dispatched to the area of the 1000 block of Lakeville Street for a subject who had reportedly brandished a firearm. Officers arrived on scene and spoke with the victim. The victim was identified as the same victim from the above-described robbery. In summary, while driving in the area of the 1000 block of Lakeville Street, the same suspect (described above) had brandished a firearm in his direction. The suspect was described as having pulled up next to him (victim) in a separate vehicle and brandishing a firearm at the victim. The victim was adamant the same suspect (white male with long hair) was again responsible for brandishing a firearm towards him. No property was taken during this incident.
During this investigation, the victim provided a possible license plate and a description of the suspect’s vehicle. An officer located a possible match to the vehicle description provided by the victim; the possible suspect vehicle was located in the 2000 block of Crinella Drive. In the locked unoccupied vehicle, officers located what appeared to be a black handgun partially concealed in the backseat. A male subject (identified Austin Souza) was determined to be associated with this vehicle. Souza was later contacted by officers. The victim confirmed Souza was responsible for the incident on 02/20/2022 and 04/05/2022; the victim confirmed he wished to pursue charges against Souza.
During the investigation, officers conducted a search of the vehicle and located two imitation firearms inside the vehicle. Sousa was arrested for robbery and brandishing an imitation firearm. He was transported to the Sonoma County Jail.
