El Cerrito Police Department Blotter March 22 - March 24

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

March 22nd

Vehicle Theft – 700 block of Colusa Ave
At 1:11 PM, an officer reports a white 2016 Ford Transit delivery van was stolen from in front of a residence at 1:00 PM when the driver left the vehicle running while making a delivery.  The vehicle was last seen fleeing toward Terrace Drive.   The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office later recovered the vehicle intact in Richmond.

Vehicle Theft – 5600 block of Poinsett Ave
At 3:02 PM, an officer reports the theft of a green, 2-door 1996 Honda Civic between 1:00-2:00 PM on 3/22/2022.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – San Pablo Ave / Ohio Ave
At 3:11 PM, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a motorcycle with no plates.  The officer arrested the driver, a 40 year old Richmond man, when records check revealed the motorcycle was reported stolen.  Recovered was a black 2009 Kawasaki Ninja reported stolen to the Petaluma Police Department on 8/13/2021.

Grand Theft / Petty Theft – 1000 block of Leneve Pl
At 4:15 PM, an officer reports the theft of a catalytic converter from a Honda Accord between 11:00 PM on 3/18 and 6:50 AM on 3/19.  There was also a theft of tools from inside a 1976 Chevy Blazer at the same location during the same time frame.

Vehicle Theft – 6500 block of Portola Ave
At 6:30 PM, an officer reports the theft of a grey 2017 Toyota Yaris sometime overnight.
March 23rd  

Grand Theft – 10200 San Pablo Ave (Auto-Metrix)
At 3:49 PM, an officer reports the wheels and tires were stolen off one of the vehicles in the used car lot sometime overnight.

Warrant Arrest – 900 block of Kearney St
At 12:31 AM, an officer reports the arrest of a 33-year-old man who was found to have 6 warrants for his arrest; the man was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

March 24th

Residential Burglary / Prowling / Possess Stolen Property / Possess Burglary Tools / Probation Violation / Drug Paraphernalia / Warrant Arrest – 1100 block of Richmond St
At 8:00 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect entered the unlocked garage of a residence and stole a duffle bag containing tools, electronics and an Apple laptop. 

Commercial Burglary – 10620 San Pablo Ave (H&R Block)
At 8:55 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect cut the lock box off the front door of H&R Block and used the key to enter the building.  The suspect stole an empty cash register, numerous tax files, the main tax preparation computer, and a cash box containing approximately $2000.  The incident had occurred sometime overnight.

Petty Theft – 4010 El Cerrito Plaza (AT&T)
At 7:15 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered the business, grabbed a display phone, and ripped the phone from its security cord before leaving.

Restraining Order Violation – 5600 block of Poinsett Ave
At 7:51 PM, an officer reports that the suspect in this investigation violated the “peaceful contact” clause of a court order; the violation occurred over the weekend.
