El Cerrito Police Department Blotter April 1 to April 4

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

April 1st

Vehicle Tampering – 700 block of Colusa Ave. 
At 12:40 am, a victim interrupted two suspects in the process of cutting the catalytic converter from his vehicle.  The suspects fled without the catalytic converter.

Animal Cruelty – 600 block of Lexington Ave. 
A Community Services Officer located a dog in a sealed vehicle without food or water.  A nearby resident stated the vehicle had been parked for at least a day.  The dog was removed from the vehicle, transported to the police department, and then handed over to Contra Costa County Animal Control. 

Assault with a Deadly Weapon – 11785 San Pablo Avenue (Launderland);
At 8:01 pm Officers were sent to the business for the report of a fight.  When they arrived they only found the victim who reported they had their head slammed in a car door during the fight. 
 
April 2nd

Vandalism – CVS, 10650 San Pablo Ave. 
At 12:12 pm, officers were dispatched to the business for an unknown suspect smashing windows with a cane.  Officers located and arrested the 34-year-old Hercules man.  He was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Petty Theft – 3160 Carlson Blvd. 
At 12:33 hours, an unknown suspect walked into the gas station, waited for the clerk to walk to the back, and then went behind the counter.  Once there, the suspect stole several CA Lottery Scratchers. 

Grand Theft – 200 block of Ashbury Ave. 
At 2:30 pm, an unknown suspect stole the catalytic converter from the victim’s vehicle.
 
Petty Theft – 10300 block of San Pablo Avenue.
At 7:52 pm an officer was sent to the report of a theft that had occurred.  The victim described they received a prepaid credit card for opening an account with a local business.  A few days later someone called the victim identifying themselves as an employee from the business.  The “employee” asked for information from the card.  After the call the victim became suspicious and checked the balance on the card and found it had a zero balance. 

April 3rd

Battery – 3300 block of Santa Clara Ave. 
At 1 pm, an unknown suspect walked up to the female victim and reached his hand out for a hand shake.  The victim shook the suspect’s hand.  The suspect pulled the victim towards him and gave her a hug.  The victim yelled at the suspect several times to let her go and he eventually did.  The suspect then fled on foot. 
 
April 4th

Stolen License plates – 6600 block of Stockton Ave. 
Between 4 pm on the 3rd and 3 pm on the 4th, an unknown suspect stole the rear license plate from the victim’s vehicle.
