El Cerrito Police Department Blotter March 28 - March 31
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
March 28th
Vandalism / Warrant Arrest – 4010 El Cerrito Plaza:
An officer was dispatched to AT&T for a subject that just broke a large plate glass window in the front of the business. He then fled on foot, eastbound to the BART Path. Officers located and detained a 36 year old Richmond man. The suspect was most likely high on a central nervous system stimulant and complained of chest pains. The man was checked by paramedics and declined any further medical treatment. The man was transported to the county jail.
Residential Burglary – 1100 block of Contra Costa Dr:
An officer reports that an unknown suspect shattered the rear sliding glass door of the victim’s residence and lightly ransacked the interior; no loss has been reported at this time.
Auto Burglary – 1500 block of S. 56th St:
At 6:35 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect broke a window to the victim vehicle sometime during the night and removed property.
March 29th
Vehicle Theft – 600 block of Albemarle St:
At 8:48 AM, an officer reports a 1999 black Honda Civic was stolen from the street between 9:00 PM on 3/28 and 8:30 AM on 3/29.
Vehicle Theft – 2500 block of Tulare Ave:
At 9:54 AM, an officer reports a red 2000 Honda CR-V was stolen from the street between 6:00 PM on 3/28 and 9:45 AM on 3/29.
Petty Theft – 225 El Cerrito Plaza:
At 12:59 PM, an officer reports the front license plate from a 2020 Ford F-150 pickup was lost or stolen sometime between August 2021 and today.
March 30th
Grand Theft – 1600 block of Richmond St:
At 11:11 AM, a Community Service Officer reports an unidentified suspect stole $1500 worth of tools from the back of a pickup truck between 10:30-10:40 AM while the victim was in his house for lunch.
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreen’s):
At 1:15 PM, an officer reports the recovery of a 2017 Nissan Sentra reported stolen to the Vallejo Police Department.
March 31st
Petty Theft – 1100 block of Richmond St:
At 3:33 PM, an officer reports the theft of three large potted plants from the front yard of the residence.
Possess Firearm on Campus / Possess High Capacity Magazine / Juvenile Possess Firearm / Unserialized Firearm / Resist Arrest – 540 Ashbury Ave (El Cerrito High School):
At 2:43 hours, officers were dispatched to a report of a student on campus with a pistol. A 17 year old male student and an 18 year old male student were both determined via video surveillance to have been in possession of the backpack containing the loaded Polymer 80 9mm “ghost gun” with high capacity (50 round) drum magazine. The juvenile was detained in handcuffs while a search was conducted to attempt to locate the backpack. The juvenile attempted to run while handcuffed, but was taken into custody after a short distance.
The adult student was located on the BART path near Schmidt and ran when confronted by officers. He was taken into custody near Tap Plastics. The backpack containing the “ghost gun” was located abandoned on school grounds by school administrators, and was collected as evidence. The 18 year old student was transported to the county jail, and the juvenile student was released to his parent after Juvenile Hall declined to accept him.
Vandalism – 10458 San Pablo Ave:
At 2:49 PM, an officer reports the victim’s ex-boyfriend, a 52 year old Richmond man, kicked the victim’s vehicle causing dents.
Grand Theft – Fairmount Ave / Kearney Ave:
At 2:03 AM, an officer reports an unknown removed the catalytic conve3rter from the underside of the victim’s vehicle.
