INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Crash
LOCATION: State Highway 18 outer south / Tonikan Road
VICTIM(S): Withheld Pending Next of Kin Notification
SUMMARY: On Thursday, April 7, 2022, at approximately 9:45 p.m., deputies from the Apple Valley Station and rescue personnel from the Apple Valley Fire Protection District and American Medical Response responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian crash at the intersection of State Highway 18 outer south and Tonikan Road, in Apple Valley. Upon arrival, deputies determined that a white GMC Sierra was traveling east on State Highway 18 outer south, and the pedestrian was walking in the eastbound lane of State Highway 18 outer south. The driver of the GMC did not see the pedestrian and collided with the pedestrian, west of Tonikan Road.
The pedestrian suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The pedestrian succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The driver of the GMC was uninjured and remained on scene to cooperate with the investigation.
Investigators are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash. The intersection of State Highway 18 outer south and Tonikan Road was closed for approximately two hours, while investigators processed the scene for evidence and interviewed witnesses.
