OPD NEWS:

Additional Officers This Weekend to Focus on Violent Crime

This year, the Oakland Police Department (OPD) has investigated 33 homicides, down more than 10% over last year.  However, since Wednesday, three people have lost their lives in Oakland.

  • The first homicide occurred on April 6, 2022, just before 9:00 PM, in the 1200 block of Lakeshore Avenue.

  • The second homicide occurred on April 7, 2022, just before 10:00 PM, in the 3400 block of Mandela Parkway.

  • The third homicide occurred on April 7, 2022, shortly after 10:00 PM, in the 1800 block of East 12th Street.

The Department is closely tracking this uptick in fatal shootings, including descriptions of those responsible.  If you have information regarding these violent crimes, please call 510-238-3821 or the TIP LINE at (510) 238-7950.

OPD remains vigilant of the numerous incidents occurring in the City of Oakland.  This recent spike in violence will be met with additional officers on the streets this weekend.

OPD’S COMMITMENT:
  • The added officer’s sole purpose will be to focus on violent crimes.

  • Officers will be dedicated to illegal sideshow enforcement and supporting patrol officers for calls for services.

OPD also relies on intelligence-led policing. The department’s Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC), and the Violent Crime Operations Center (VCOC), lead OPD’s focused enforcement and apprehension efforts.

This year, the VCOC officers have arrested 10 individuals connected to homicides, as well as recovered three dozen firearms.

OPD encourages residents & businesses to consider installing security cameras.
