Gun Shots Fired / Barricaded Suspect Surrenders to Negotiators
On April 9, 2022, at approximately 8:00 PM, Culver City Officers received a call for service regarding gun shots fired inside a residence in the 4000 block of Van Buren Place. The reporting party indicated that her boyfriend had discharged his firearm inside their residence, had access to other firearms, and was under the influence of alcohol.
Officers arrived on scene and were able to confirm that suspect was likely armed inside his home and had discharged a firearm twice inside the location. The reporting party had safely evacuated the home and met with CCPD officers.
Officers from the Hawthorne Police Department, Santa Monica Police Department, Beverly Hills Police Department, and El Segundo Police Department arrived to assist CCPD officers. Members from the Culver City Police Department Drone Team responded and utilized a drone keep and overhead watch on the suspect’s residence.
Members of the Culver City Police Department Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) arrived and were able to establish communication with the suspect. After a brief negotiation, the suspect agreed to exit his residence and peacefully surrender to the officers. An outside agency provided an armored vehicle, which CNT and other officers used as cover while they negotiated with the suspect.
The suspect was transported to CCPD where he was booked for PC 246.3, negligent discharge of a firearm.
This case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
