On Saturday, April 9, 2022, at 4:39 AM, Corcoran officers were dispatched to a residence in the 2400 block of Garvey Avenue for a shooting investigation. Upon arrival, officers found a 37-year-old male, later identified as Christopher Ramirez, suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg. Officers applied first aid until EMS arrived and transported the Ramirez to a local hospital. A witness at the scene, identified as Leonard Rodriguez, claimed a subject had shot the Ramirez and ran to an awaiting vehicle. During the investigation it was determined Ramirez had accidently shot himself and Rodriguez had hidden the firearm at the residence. It was further learned that Ramirez and Rodriguez are previously convicted felons and prohibited from possessing firearms and/or ammunition. Corcoran Police Detectives served a search warrant at the residence and located two firearms, a high-capacity magazine, and ammunition. One of the firearms was found to be the one Ramirez shot himself with. Both firearms were registered to a subject who had recently died and are believed to have been stolen from his residence. Rodriguez was arrested and booked into the Corcoran Police Department jail for the charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, possession of a high-capacity magazine and attempting to conceal evidence. He was later booked into the Kings County Jail for these charges and his bail was set at $85,000.00. Charges will be sought on Ramirez when he is released from the hospital.
