Supervisor Barber's Coronavirus (COVID-19) Seven Hundred Sixty-Fifth Update (Monday, April 11, 2022)

The Albany County COVID-19 dashboard reported that there were 84 new positive cases overnight in the County, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 63,951 positive cases.  The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases increased from 70.2 to 71.4 cases.  The number of County residents in the hospital due to COVID-19 symptoms increased by two to now 21 patients, with three patients remaining in the ICU.  The County’s pandemic death toll remained at 541.

State DOH reported that the County’s rate for one vaccine dose as of yesterday was 81.5% of the County’s total population and 89.8% of the adult population, and the County’s rate for full-vaccination was 74.3% of the total population, and for boosters was 66.9% of the eligible population.  The State’s rate for one dose was 89.8% for the total population and 95.0% of adults, and the State’s rate for full-vaccination was 76.4% for the total population, and for boosters was 56.5% of the eligible population.

The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 84,478 tests Statewide were 4,060 or 4.4% positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 4.2%.  The Capital Region had 2,561 tests of which 172 or 6.6% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 5.8%.  The County had 722 tests of which 56 or 7.8% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 7.5%.

The State’s COVID-19 data included yesterday’s positive rate for tests (4.40%), hospitalizations (1,060, +35), new COVID-19 hospital admissions (163), ICU patients (130, -4), intubations (66, +5), and deaths (13).

The recent uptick in infection rates is concerning but not yet cause for alarm by federal and state health officials.  The CDC reports that nationwide there has been a slight increase, about 3%, in the number of positive cases but there have been significant increases in some areas, including a 40% increase in New York City and 93% in Albany County over two-week period.

Next Thursday, April 21 at 7:30pm, the Guilderland Historical Society is hosting an online Zoom presentation about the new “Country Club Highlands Historic District” in McKownville.  Bill Kidd, one of the residents who were key to this successful effort, will explain the designation process before the NYS Board of Historic Preservation.  The new historic district includes 94 houses built between 1910 and 1952 on the north side of Western Avenue between Fuller Road and Waverly Place, and properties along Western Avenue, Waverly Place and portions of Norwood, Glenwood, Parkwood and Elmwood Streets.   Please take the time to learn more about the Town’s rich history.

Thank you for staying safe and calm.
