The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito April 5th to April 7, 2022.

April 5th

Commercial Burglary – 10628 San Pablo Ave (One Stop Laundromat)
At 6:41 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect entered the open business at 9:47 PM on 4/4, pried the locked office door with a pry bar, and then cut open the bill changer machine with a reciprocating saw.  An estimated $2500 in cash was stolen from inside the machine, and the damage to the machine was estimated at $7800.  The crime was captured on video, and the suspect was described as a black male, 5’6”, 180, wearing a black hat, black mask and all black clothing.

Possess Controlled Substance / Paraphernalia – 10628 San Pablo Ave (One Stop Laundromat)
At 6:41 AM, an officer reports the arrest of a 54 year old unsheltered man when he was located in the office of the laundromat during the above investigation.  The man was initially detained for the investigation, and was determined to have a small amount of methamphetamine and a few meth pipes on his person.  Once it was determined he was not the burglary suspect, the man was released on a field citation for the Health and Safety violations.

Vehicle Theft – 11755 San Pablo Ave (Honda of El Cerrito)
At 8:49 AM, an officer reports the theft of a white 2006 GMC Sierra at 8:30 AM.  The theft was captured on video.  Immediately prior to the theft, a black Dodge Ram pickup parked next to the victim vehicle, and then both vehicles left together.

Grand Theft – 6500 block of Gladys Ave
At 2:57 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect stole the catalytic converter from a Toyota Prius at 2:35 PM.  Suspect was described as a black male in his 30’s, 6’ tall, 160 pounds, wearing a white shirt. 

Petty Theft – Avila St / Carlson Blvd
At 9:13 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the rear license plate from the victim’s vehicle sometime during the last week.

Domestic Violence – 6600 block of Schmidt Lane
At 1:04 AM, an officer reports the arrest of a 30-year-old subject following a physical confrontation between the woman and the victim. The subject was later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Commercial Burglary – 10602 San Pablo Ave (Exxon)
At 3:03 AM, an officer reports two unknown suspects forced their way into the closed business and stole a display rack containing Lotto scratch off tickets.

April 6th

Domestic Violence – 7500 block of Errol Dr
At 5:57 PM, an officer reports the arrest of a 35-year-old subject following a physical confrontation between the woman and the victim. The subject was later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

April 7th

Vehicle Theft – 6410 Schmidt Ln
At 8:14 AM, an officer reports the theft of a 2007 BMW 335i from the street in front of the apartments between 10:00 PM on 4/5 and 7:45 AM on 4/7.

Vandalism – 11565 San Pablo Ave
At 1:30 PM, an officer reports the right front window of a 2019 Honda Civic was smashed in the Walgreen’s parking lot by an unidentified suspect.

Shoplifting – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreens)
At 6:16 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect selected approximately $150 worth of merchandise and left without providing payment

Domestic Violence – 500 block of Lexington Ave
At 9:26 PM, an officer reports the arrest of a 32-year-old woman following a physical confrontation between the man and the victim. The man was later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Grand Theft – 2900 block of San Mateo St
At 12:33 AM, an officer reports an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from the underside of the victim’s vehicle earlier in the evening.
