The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from April 11, to April 14, 2022.

 The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
April 11th
 
Vehicle Theft – 11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway):
At 1:31 PM, an officer reports a “colorful” 2001 Ford E350 van was stolen from the parking lot at 6:52 AM on 4/9/2022 but was not discovered until the 11th because the victim lives in Colma and parks his work vehicle in the Safeway lot on weekends.
 
DUI Collision – San Pablo Ave / Cutting Blvd:
At 8:30 PM, an officer reports the arrest of a 30-year-old man who was found to be DUI after having been involved in a collision. The man was arrested and later released from the police department with a citation.
 
Mail Theft – 2900 block of San Mateo St:
At 4:07 AM, an officer reports an unknown suspect pried open a communal mailbox area located in an apartment complex and removed an unknown amount of mail.
 
April 12th  
 
Organized Retail Theft – 430 El Cerrito Plaza (Foot Locker):
At 2:28 PM, an officer reports an two unidentified suspects stole shoes and clothing. 
(S1) was a black male, 5'8", medium build, wearing a black hoodie with "Worldwide" on the front, black pants and had a ski mask.
(S2) was a black male, 5'10", thin build, wearing a black hoodie with "Worldwide" on the front, blue pants, and had a ski mask.
 
Warrant Arrest – Carmel Ave / Fairmount Ave:
At 8:21 PM, an officer reports the arrest of a 56-year-old man who was wanted on an ECPD warrant. The man was interviewed by investigators and later released.
 
April 13th  
 
Warrant Arrest – 7022 Stockton Ave (7 Eleven):
At 12:18 PM, an officer reports the arrest of a 49 year old El Cerrito man on two El Cerrito Police Department warrants.  The man was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
 
Battery  – San Pablo Ave / Eastshore Blvd:
At 3:52 PM, an officer reports the victim and suspect engaged in mutual road rage after negotiating the cone zone from the nearby road construction.  The suspect took offense to the victim’s horn honking and stopped her green VW Beetle across the lanes in front of the victim’s vehicle.  The victim and suspect exited their respective vehicles and continued to chip away at each other.  When the suspect returned to her vehicle, the victim feared she may be going for a weapon, so the victim tried to retreat back to her car.  As she tried to enter her vehicle, the suspect pushed the door against her head three times causing a small scratch to her head.  The victim waited several hours to seek treatment at Kaiser, and several more to report the incident to police.  Time of occurrence was approximately 9:00 AM this morning.
 
Grand Theft  – Ward St / Santa Fe Ave: At 5:32 PM, an officer reports the theft of a catalytic converter from a Toyota Camry sometime between 5:30 PM on 4/11 and 4:30 PM on 4/13.
 
Burglary – 1700 block of Walnut St:
At 9:22 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered an unsecured vacant residence and helped themselves to food items inside.
 
Commercial Burglary – 180 El Cerrito Plaza (El Cerrito Optometry):
At 3:41 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect broke a window to the business and removed several pairs of high end sunglasses.
 
April 14th
 
Auto Burglary – 11100 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 11:47 PM, an officer reports that an unknown suspect broke a window to the victim’s vehicle and removed property; the crime occurred much earlier in the day.
 
Trespassing – 6060 Central Ave (Nations):
At 1:01 AM, an officer reports the Citizen’s Arrest of a 37-year-old man who refused to leave the business after being requested to leave by both staff and officers. The man was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
