Route 46 westbound lane in Knowlton Township to be closed for emergency slope and fence repairs starting tomorrow
New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced that a portion of Route 46 westbound will be closed beginning tomorrow for emergency slope and fence repairs in Knowlton Township.
An approximately 800-foot section of Route 46 westbound will be closed from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, April 19, with alternating traffic using the eastbound lane. The closure is necessary to install construction barrier and restripe the road in order to set up a traffic shift to create a work zone in the westbound lane. By 3 p.m. tomorrow, traffic will be shifted with Route 46 eastbound using the right shoulder as a travel lane and Route 46 westbound using the eastbound lane. This roadway configuration is expected to be in place for approximately three months.
The traffic shift is necessary for emergency slope and fence repairs near mile post 2.3, which is about a half-mile west of the truck stop. A mudslide that occured on April 7 caused damaged a portion of the existing NJDOT fence along Route 46 westbound. The slope will be stabilized, and the fence will be restored.
Motorists are advised to use caution and slow down through the work area so crews can safely make the repairs, or motorists may consider alternate routes.
