On April 30th (Saturday) 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM, the Tewksbury Township Police Department will host a collection site for the DEA Take Back Day, a national safe medicine disposal event, in the foyer of Police Headquarters, 167 Old Turnpike Road, Califon NJ.

Clean out your medicine cabinets and safely dispose of your unused, unwanted, or expired medications.  Includes prescription, over-the-counter, pet meds, etc.

This program is anonymous.  Individuals can deposit medication freely and independently.

Individuals may dispose of medication either in its original container or by removing medication from its container and placing them in a zip lock bag, then disposing into the drug disposal box. If the original container is submitted, individuals are encouraged to remove the prescription label if it contains any personal identifying information.

Liquid products, such as cough medicine, should remain sealed in their original container. The depositor should ensure that the cap is tightly sealed and the container placed in a zip lock bag to prevent leakage.

Syringes and other sharp instruments WILL NOT be accepted.

Vape pens or other e-cigarette devices may be disposed of ONLY after the batteries are removed from the devices. The Tewksbury Township Police Department is not responsible for removing the batteries from the devices.

If the battery cannot be removed, individual consumers can check with large electronic chain stores who may accept the vape pen or e-cigarette devices for proper disposal. Individual consumers may also contact their local Hazardous Materials Management Facility to determine if they accept these devices.

If you are unable to drop off your medications on this date note that the Tewksbury Township Police has a Project Medicine Dropbox in the foyer of Police Headquarters that is always available during regular business hours.
