Pomona Police Detectives have arrested 26-year-old Josue Cervantes for a robbery that occurred on Monday, April 18, 2022, at the 7-Eleven on E. Grand Ave.
On April 18, 2022, at about 3:30 AM, Patrol Officers responded to 7-Eleven in reference to an armed robbery. The employee (victim) was outside the store when he recognized the suspect from a prior theft. The victim entered the business, quickly locking the door behind him before the suspect could follow him inside. The suspect, armed with a rifle, demanded entry to the business. The suspect then began shooting at the victim through the glass, entered the store, and stole merchandise.
When Officers arrived, they located the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital and expected to recover from his injuries. The suspect fled in an unknown direction and hid through the night.
Later that morning, Detectives were conducting a follow-up investigation at the 7-Eleven when they located the discarded rifle and other belongings nearby. An Officer saw a person who matched the suspect's description running from the immediate area. With the assistance of the Department’s Special Investigations Unit, K-9, and other Department resources, Officers located the suspect hiding in the backyard of a nearby residence.
Cervantes was booked at the Pomona City Jail and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has filed the following charges:
664/187PC - Attempted Murder
211 PC - Robbery
422 PC - Criminal Threats
245A2 PC - Assault with a deadly weapon/firearm
246 PC - Shooting into an inhabited dwelling
29800 PC - Felon in possession of a firearm
