Supervisor Barber's Coronavirus (COVID-19) Seven Hundred Seventy-Sixth Update (Friday, April 22, 2022)
In a press release today, Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy reported that there were 175 new positive cases overnight in the County, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 65,315 positive cases. The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases increased from 129.9 to 134 cases. The number of County residents in the hospital due to COVID-19 symptoms remained at 24 patients, with one patient in the ICU. The County’s pandemic death toll remained at 547.
The County Executive added:
My thoughts and prayers are with the families who lost loved ones to COVID complications. This virus continues to spread at a rapid rate, though the number of individuals in our hospitals is remaining relatively low and stable for now. I’m happy to see the percentage of people getting their booster shots growing quickly, which was down at 64.3% just three weeks ago.
I continue to urge people to get vaccinated and boosted if they haven’t yet, and to take added precautions if you are older or have underlying health issues and weakened immune systems that could create a greater danger if you contract COVID-19.
State DOH reported that the County’s rate for one vaccine dose as of yesterday was 81.6% of the County’s total population and 89.9% of the adult population, and the County’s rate for full-vaccination was 74.1% of the total population, and for boosters was 69.5% of the eligible population. The State’s rate for one dose was 90.0% for the total population and 95.0% of adults, and the State’s rate for full-vaccination was 76.7% for the total population, and for boosters was 55.5% of the eligible population.
The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 118,213 tests Statewide were 8,452 or 7.0% positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 6.4%. The Capital Region had 4,1831 tests of which 489 or 11.7% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 10.3%. The County had 929 tests of which 128 or 14.3% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 11.1%.
In her press release today, the Governor reported the State’s positive rate for tests yesterday was 7.01%, hospitalizations (1,488, +35), new COVID-19 hospital admissions (285), ICU patients (186, +18), intubations (68, +9), and deaths (10).

While slots are filling-up, there are still openings available for the camp with runs from June 17 to August 15 and, new this year, there are one-week long registrations, except for the two-week commitment for swim lessons. The online digital brochure details nearly 100 sporting activities, swimming and swim lessons, day camps, hobbies, fitness options, and cultural, historical and special events, many of which are held outside in covered pavilions or sports fields. You can register online at www.guilderlandrec.com or stop by the Parks and Rec’s office at 181 Route 146 (across from Tawasentha Park).
