Incident: Occupied Stolen Vehicle Leads to Location of Stolen Property from Commercial Burglaries in Santa Rosa

Location: Motel 6, Petaluma
Suspects: Paul Carroll (30-year-old Santa Rosa Resident)
Charges: Possession of a stolen vehicle and providing a false name to law enforcement.
On 04/22/2022 at approximately 09:24 AM, Petaluma Officer Flores was conducting proactive patrol in the Motel 6 parking lot in Petaluma. He observed a parked suspicious vehicle and conducted a records check on it, and discovered it was reported as a stolen vehicle out of Santa Rosa.
Officer Flores noticed there was a subject inside and due to elevated safety risks, a high-risk traffic stop was initiated. Officers detained the subject, who was later determined to be Paul Carroll after he initially identified himself as someone else.
A search of the stolen vehicle yielded several pieces of property which were suspected to belong to two businesses in the Santa Rosa area and drug paraphernalia. Officer Flores conducted further research and was able to reach the victims, who later responded to the Petaluma Police Department and identified some of the property as being stolen from their business. The property was subsequently released to the owners.
Officer Flores located additional evidence on Carroll and in his associated hotel room that was linked to the two commercial burglaries in Santa Rosa. He is currently working with the Santa Rosa Police Department on their investigation.
At the conclusion of the investigation, Carroll was transported to the Sonoma County Jail where he was booked for:

496(d) PC- Possession of Stolen Property
529(a)(3) PC- False Personation of Another
466 PC- Possession of Burglary Tools
459 PC- Commercial Burglary
11364(a) H&S- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
1203.2 PC- Violation of Felony Probation.
