Tobacco Grant Provided by Department of Justice Funds Operation to Crack Down on Underage Tobacco Sales

SUMMARY: On Friday, April 22, 2022, between the hours of 4-8 p.m., personnel from the Chino Hills Station Multiple Enforcement Team (MET) conducted a tobacco minor decoy operation, within the city of Chino Hills. The operation was funded by a tobacco grant, awarded through the Department of Justice (DOJ). The operation consisted of a decoy under the age of 21, who was used to contact store clerks at 12 different locations in the city of Chino Hills, to attempt to purchase tobacco products. One clerk agreed to sell tobacco to the underage decoy and was issued a citation for PC 308(a)(1), furnishing tobacco to persons under 21 years of age.
The Chino Hills Station will continue shoulder tap and minor decoy operations in accordance with the California Department of Justice Tobacco Grant Program, in the near future.
