Supervisor Barber's Coronavirus (COVID-19) Seven Hundred Seventy-Eighth Update (Sunday, April 24, 2022)

Albany County’s COVID-19 dashboard today reported that there were 159 new positive cases overnight in the County, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 65,640 positive cases.  The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases increased from 140.2 to 142.9 cases.  The number of County residents in the hospital due to COVID-19 symptoms increased by four to 32 patients, with two patients in the ICU.  The County reported one death since Friday which increased the County’s pandemic death toll to 548.  The County Executive will likely have details about this death in his Tuesday update.

State DOH reported that the County’s rate for one vaccine dose as of yesterday was 81.6% of the County’s total population and 89.9% of the adult population, and the County’s rate for full-vaccination was 74.2% of the total population, and for boosters was 69.9% of the eligible population.  The State’s rate for one dose was 90.0% for the total population and 95.0% of adults, and the State’s rate for full-vaccination was 76.8% for the total population, and for boosters was 55.6% of the eligible population.

The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 93,095 tests Statewide were 5,931 or 6.4% positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 6.9%.  The Capital Region had 4,072 tests of which 466 or 11.8% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 11.4%.  The County had 892 tests of which 124 or 14.6% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 12.8%.

The State’s COVID-19 dashboard reported the State’s positive rate for tests yesterday was 7.11%, hospitalizations (1,546, +58), new COVID-19 hospital admissions (315), ICU patients (177, -9), intubations (72, +3), and deaths (11).

The CDC’s Community Level reported that Albany County now has a “high” community level based on hospital beds being used, hospital admissions, and the total number of new COVID-19 cases in an area.  At the “high” level, the CDC recommends:

Wear a mask indoors in public and on public transportation.  Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines.  Get tested if you have symptoms.  If you are at high risk for severe illness, consider taking additional precautions.

I thank you for your generous donations and support for local charities that have served our community during this pandemic.  With rampant inflation driving up the costs of food and other necessities, local support organizations are experiencing a marked increase in meeting the needs of our community.  You can help by considering online donations for Community Caregivers and the Guilderland Food Pantry.  Any donations would be greatly appreciated.  You can also drop off non-perishable and other needed items at the Pantry that is located at 4 Charles Boulevard.

I hope that you had an enjoyable and relaxing weekend.

Thank you for staying safe and calm.
