Supervisor Barber's Coronavirus (COVID-19) Seven Hundred, Eightieth Update (Tuesday, April 26, 2022)
In a press release today, Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy reported that there were 133 new positive cases overnight in the County, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 65,885 positive cases. The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases increased from 139.3 to 157 cases. The number of County residents in the hospital due to COVID-19 symptoms increased by four to 31 patients, with three patients in the ICU. The County reported two new COVID-19 deaths since the last update, a man in his 60’s and a woman in her 90’s. The County’s pandemic death toll stands at 549. The County Executive added:
Our infection rate continues to rise at an alarming rate, and we are likely not detecting the full level of community spread as many at-home COVID tests go unreported. Albany County’s average percent positive rate has jumped from 3.3% to 13.5% over the last month. Sadly, as the virus spreads more and more, hospitalizations rise and we see more deaths, and my condolences go out to the families who lost loved ones over the last few days.
The best way to protect ourselves and those around us is by getting vaccinated, getting booster shots, getting tested, and wearing masks while indoors as we continue to grapple with this latest surge of infections.
State DOH reported that the County’s rate for one vaccine dose as of yesterday was 81.7% of the County’s total population and 89.9% of the adult population, and the County’s rate for full-vaccination was 74.2% of the total population, and for boosters was 70.2% of the eligible population. The State’s rate for one dose was 90.1% for the total population and 95.0% of adults, and the State’s rate for full-vaccination was 76.8% for the total population, and for boosters was 55.5% of the eligible population.
The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 52,494 tests Statewide were 4,791 or 9.3% positive, with the seven-day average remaining at 7.1%. The Capital Region had 2,279 tests of which 333 or 14.6% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 12.0%. The County had 618 tests of which 101 or 14.8% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 13.7%.
In a press release today, Governor Kathy Hochul reported the State’s positive rate for tests yesterday (9.30%), hospitalizations (1,726, +138), new COVID-19 hospital admissions (281), ICU patients (187, +6), intubations (66, -4), and deaths (14).
On Wednesday May 4, from 6:30 to 7:30pm, the Guilderland Public Library is hosting an in-person seminar about why some popular garden plants are actually classified as invasive and what are alternative native plants. Kate Brittenham, of Front Stoop Pocket Gardens will provide guidance for choosing native plants that will thrive in your garden and also support local wildlife.
