Incident Summary:

On April 16, 2022, at 5:01 pm, the Petaluma Police Department asked residents to avoid the area of Huntington Way, Wilmington Drive, and Madison Street. The Petaluma Police Department Investigations Unit had tracked a warrant suspect to a house in the area.  The suspect, Jeremy Hair of Petaluma had a felony warrant stemming from an incident which occurred on April 20, 2022.

At the time it was believed Hair knew officers were trying to locate him and had attempted to flee from a residence on Huntington Way.  Officers formed a perimeter around the house and summoned the assistance of the Petaluma Police Department’s K9 unit and the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office helicopter, Henry One.  A short time after the public was notified, Hair was located in the backyard of the residence the investigator had tracked him to. Hair was taken into custody without incident.

Hair was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on the warrant which included the following charges: first degree burglary, criminal threats, false imprisonment by violence, vandalism, exhibiting a deadly weapon, and kidnapping.

The warrant stemmed from a Petaluma case in which Hair broke into the residence of an acquaintance, damaged property inside the residence, held the victim against her will for a short time, then forced the victim to drive him away from the scene while holding a knife.  When they reached their destination, the victim was able to flee from the suspect after he exited the vehicle. The victim was not physically harmed during the incident.

The proper use of tools such as K9 units and a helicopter have proven effective in locating and isolating suspects who are attempting to flee.  Additionally, their presence has often deterred suspects from choosing to resist arrest or assault officers.  This is the second case this month in which the combination has been used to apprehend a dangerous suspect without incident.
