Supervisor Barber's Coronavirus (COVID-19) Seven Hundred, Eighty-First Update (Wednesday, April 27, 2022)

Albany County’s COVID-19 dashboard reported that there were 209 new positive cases overnight in the County, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 66,094 positive cases.  The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases increased from 157 to 164.4 cases.  The number of County residents in the hospital due to COVID-19 symptoms increased by one to 32 patients, with three patients in the ICU.  The County’s pandemic death toll remains at 549.  
   
State DOH reported that the County’s rate for one vaccine dose as of yesterday was 81.7% of the County’s total population and 89.9% of the adult population, and the County’s rate for full-vaccination was 74.2% of the total population, and for boosters was 70.4% of the eligible population.  The State’s rate for one dose was 90.1% for the total population and 95.0% of adults, and the State’s rate for full-vaccination was 76.8% for the total population, and for boosters was 55.5% of the eligible population. 

The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 109,304 tests Statewide were 7,693 or 6.7% positive, with the seven-day average remaining at 7.1%.  The Capital Region had 3,384 tests of which 505 or 16.3% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 12.5%.  The County had 1,052 tests of which 137 or 14.9% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 14.0%.

In a press release today, Governor Kathy Hochul reported the State’s positive rate for tests yesterday (6.70%), hospitalizations (1,774, +48), new COVID-19 hospital admissions (351), ICU patients (193, +6), intubations (63, -3), and deaths (19). 

The Albany Pine Bush Preserve has announced the return of Lupine Fest 2022 on Saturday, May 21 from 10am to 4pm.  The Lupine Fest is timed (hopefully) for the blooming of the violet lupine flowers and the annual emergence of Karner blue butterflies.  You can enjoy live music, food, arts and crafts, games, and participate in wildlife programs and nature walks.  Please note that parking for this event is at 302 Washington Ave Ext with a free shuttle bus to the Discovery Center.  More information about this event is available online.
