Removal of abandoned and derelict vessels in Weehawken Cove begins Monday

The City will begin removing abandoned boats from Weehawken Cove on Monday, May 2. The City’s Contractor, Ken’s Marine Service, will remove the abandoned and derelict vessels from the water and load them onto barges for transport.

The boat removal is anticipated to take up to four weeks. Boat removal will generally occur between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. but, operations may occur later in accordance with high tide.

All work will be performed via water. There will be no parking or traffic impacts, and significant noise is not anticipated.

The project is funded by a $235,000 grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Marine Debris Removal Program, applied for by the Bhalla administration.

More information about the project is available at www.hobokennj.gov/news/hoboken-secures-grant-funding-for-weehawken-cove-boat-removal-project.
