Crime Alert Bulletin Covering the Week of April 18-24, 2022

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

At an unknown time on 04-17-22, a catalytic converter was stolen from a 2013 Toyota Prius on the 400 block of Crestview Circle.

On Tuesday, 04-19-22, at approximately 12:54 p.m., Officer Andrade and other officers were dispatched to Target at the Serramonte Shopping Center on a report of a brandishing of a firearm at a loss prevention officer. The loss prevention officer said he recognized the suspect, who had come several times in the past and shoplifted Tide detergent. Today, the suspect drove past the loss prevention officer, opened the front passenger window, pointed a gun at the loss prevention officer, and said, “You’re going to fuck with the wrong one.” The loss prevention officer said the gun had a chrome barrel and resembled a 45 caliber, Glock-type handgun. On Friday, 04-20-22, at approximately 10:30 a.m., the suspect, a 28-year old East Palo Alto resident, was seen walking to his vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody and a probation search of his vehicle was conducted. A loaded “ghost gun” with a high-capacity magazine and Xanax pills were located. The suspect was arrested and booked into jail for being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm with no serial number, terrorist threats, brandishing of a firearm, possession of a large-capacity magazine, possession of ammunition by a felon, possession of a firearm in a vehicle, and possession of a controlled substance.

On Wednesday, 04-20-22, at approximately 12:41 a.m., Officer Zhang’s attention was drawn to two males standing on an elevated vegetation area on the north curb line of John Daly Boulevard near the Daly City BART Station. Both subjects were standing near a city street with heavy traffic. It was a potential safety concern due to the area being dark. After making contact, it was discovered one of the subjects had an outstanding warrant. Officer Abuan arrived on scene to assist Officer Zhang. The suspect advised that he had crystal methamphetamine, fentanyl, and Xanax in the left coin pocket of his pants. The suspect, a 37-year old Palo Alto resident, was arrested and cited for the outstanding warrant and possession of controlled substances.

Between midnight on 04-20-22 and 5:30 p.m. on 04-24-22., a catalytic converter was stolen from a 2016 Toyota Camry on the unit block of Parkrose Avenue.

On Friday, 04-22-22, at approximately 11:05 a.m., Officer L. Reyes noticed a subject who was hesitant to cross the street in the area of Mission Street and Wilson Street. The subject was ducking near bushes, causing Officer L. Reyes to lose sight of him. Then Officer L. Reyes saw the suspect in a parking area on the 6100 block of Mission Street. After Officer L. Reyes greeted and asked the suspect if he had anything illegal on him, the suspect removed a clear plastic baggie containing suspected methamphetamine from the right coin pocket of his pants. When asked if the suspect had any weapons on him, the suspect removed a small pocketknife from the front pocket of his hoodie. It was found that the suspect had an outstanding warrant. The suspect, a 28-year old Daly City resident, was arrested and booked into jail for the outstanding warrant and possession of a controlled substance.

Youth Unlimited Pilot Program

In partnership with the San Mateo County Office of Education, SamTrans is launching a six-month pilot program from January 1 through June 30, 2022. Known as the Youth Unlimited pilot program, it provides free SamTrans bus fares for Socioeconomically Disadvantaged (SED) students, as defined by the California Department of Education. SED students include students that are eligible for the Free and Reduced-Price Meal program, students experiencing homelessness, foster-youth, migrant students, and students whose parents did not graduate high school.

The overall goals of the program are to reduce transportation costs for low-income families, attract new and more frequent riders, and understand the potential operational impacts of providing free fares to some or all youth riders.

How do I get a Youth Unlimited pass?
School districts and individual schools are responsible for distributing the passes to eligible students. Contact your school if you believe you are eligible and haven’t received a pass.

What SamTrans bus routes serve my school?
Visit www.samtrans.com/schedulesandmaps/Get2School.html to see what bus routes serve each school, or call SamTrans Customer Service at 1-800-660-4287.

Will this program continue next school year?
SamTrans will evaluate the financial and operational impact of the pilot program before proposing to implement this program permanently next school year.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try!  www.nextdoor.com
