Couple Arrested on Drug and Property Charges after Foot Pursuit

San Mateo, CA – On Thursday, April 28, 2022, at approximately 1:07 p.m., San Mateo Police Department officers learned there was a reported stolen vehicle near the Bridgepointe Shopping Center. Officers arrived on scene and quickly located the vehicle in the shopping center parking lot. SMPD officers safely detained the driver, later identified as Julie Kennelly, without incident. During the investigation, officers discovered that another individual connected to the stolen vehicle, later identified as Jesus Acosta-Pasos, was inside one of the stores at the shopping center.

The SMPD patrol officers on scene developed a plan to safely apprehend Acosta-Pasos, but he fled in the northbound direction when he observed the officers. Acosta-Pasos ran into the underground garage of a nearby apartment building. Acosta-Pasos surrendered when he realized he had no means of escape. Shortly after Acosta-Pasos surrendered, he attempted to flee from SMPD officers for a second time. To prevent Acosta-Pasos’ escape, officers used body weight to force him to the ground. He was taken into custody without further incident. After the arrest of both Acosta-Pasos and Kennelly, officers located burglary tools, methamphetamine, and stolen property, including laptops and credit cards. Acosta-Pasos was booked into San Mateo County Jail for receiving a stolen vehicle, possession of methamphetamine, possession of burglary tools, and resisting arrest. Kennelly was booked into San Mateo County Jail for receiving a stolen vehicle and possession of methamphetamine.

Always remember, “If you see something, say something.” We are encouraging our community to utilize security cameras. They are especially helpful in identifying suspicious activity in neighborhoods when cameras are street facing. Our officers regularly canvass for surveillance and you can help us by notifying SMPD where cameras are located in your neighborhood at www.cityofsanmateo.org/NEST.
