OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING SUSPECT IDENTIFIED

The suspect involved in the April 28, 2022 shooting with officers from the Simi Valley Police Department has been identified as 29-year-old, City of Los Angeles resident Derrick Padilla.  Mr. Padilla was on parole and wanted by the Los Angeles Police Department for murder.

On April 28, 2022, The Los Angeles Police Department informed the Simi Valley Police Department reference a murder suspect possibly in the city.  At approximately 8:00 pm, officers located a male subject matching the murder suspect’s description in the area of First St. and Los Angeles Ave.  Two officers contacted the subject and during the contact, the suspect produced a firearm and shot at the officers.  Both officers returned fire and struck the suspect. 

Officers immediately rendered first aid and called for medical assistance.   The Ventura County Fire Department and the American Medical Response paramedics arrived on scene and provided medical aid.  The suspect succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Simi Valley Police Department Detective Bureau is actively investigating the incident and will provide additional information as it develops.
