Supervisor Barber's Coronavirus (COVID-19) Seven Hundred, Eighty-Eighth Update (Wednesday, May 4, 2022)

Albany County’s COVID-19 dashboard reported that there were 221new positive cases overnight in the County, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 67,456 positive cases.  The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases increased from 196.1 to 201.6 cases.  The number of County residents in the hospital due to COVID-19 symptoms increased by eight to 42 patients, with two patients in the ICU.  The County reported the death of a County resident overnight which raised the County’s pandemic death toll to 552.

State DOH reported that the County’s rate for one vaccine dose as of yesterday was 81.7% of the County’s total population and 89.9% of the adult population, and the County’s rate for full-vaccination was 74.3% of the total population, and for boosters was 72.0% of the eligible population.  The State’s rate for one dose was 90.2% for the total population and 95.0% of adults, and the State’s rate for full-vaccination was 76.9% for the total population, and for boosters was 55.5% of the eligible population.

The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 115,263 tests Statewide were 9,139 or 7.7% positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 6.9%.  The Capital Region had 3,744tests of which 605 or 16.9% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 10.3%.  The County had 1,037 tests of which 159 or 16.7% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 9.0%.

Governor Kathy Hochul reported that the State’s positive rate for tests yesterday (7.76%), hospitalizations (2,119, +69), new COVID-19 hospital admissions (430), ICU patients (204, -2), intubations (71, +1), and deaths (13).

In a statement issued last night, the CDC recommended that everyone aged 2 years and older,  including passengers and workers, wear a well-fitting mask or respirator over the nose and mouth in indoor areas of public transportation (such as airplanes, trains, etc.) and transportation hubs (such as airports, stations, etc.).  This recommendation follows the CDC’s appeal of a recent court decision that voided the nationwide facemask mandate.

At its meeting last night, the Town Board approved the Highway Superintendent’s agreement for paving certain Town streets.  This approval is required because the Highway Department receives State-aid for paving ($461,713.00) which is based on the length of Town roads, and will be supplemented this year by a Highway budget line ($165,559.00).  There are 168 miles of Town roads and there is an effort to perform maintenance roughly every 10 years on each Town road.  Every year, the Highway Department surveys the condition of each Town road and determines what roads should be paved during the coming year.  It then awaits the receipt of State-aid and, importantly this year, the actual cost of paving materials.

The Highway Superintendent plans to pave approximately 8.33 miles including, in McKownville, Ann St., Mercer St., Warren St., Providence St., Tracy St., Knowles Terrace, and Waverly Place.  In Kennewyck, the roads to be paved include Cuyler Ct., Kennewyck Circle, Normanskill Place, Pinkster Lane, Quidor Ct., and Wycham Court.  Hurst Road and parts of Ostrander and Wormer Roads will also be paved.  Please note that paving is weather dependent, and also subject to equipment breakdowns and added costs.

Thank you for staying safe and calm.
