The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito April 25th to April 28, 2022.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

April 25th
Commercial Burglary – 2060 Tapscott Ave (Prospect Sierra Elementary):
At 10:57 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect entered an office through an apparently unlocked window sometime on Friday.  Several iPad cases and assorted electronics were stolen. School staff recovered all of the property a short distance up the street.  There was no known loss.

Battery – 1800 Elm St (Summit K2):
At 1:11 PM, officers were dispatched to a fight at Summit K2 involving upward of 20 students.  As officers arrived, numerous parents also showed up at the campus, apparently summoned by their students, and began to argue over the fight and demand to press charges.  School administrators were slow to provide information to officers or parents, and the parents turned their animosity toward officers on scene.  In an attempt to clear the area and get the parents and students separated, basic information was collected at the scene and the parents were instructed to come to the police department if they wished to pursue formal charges. Due to the sheer number of people involved, the investigation is ongoing, but the fight appears to be mutual combat.  The assistant principal eventually stepped forward and notified officers the school would be handling the incident administratively, and only called 9-1-1 for a student with a cut hand unrelated to the fight.  One student and parent eventually arrived at the police department for a report.

Domestic Battery– 6400 Block of Portola Ave.
At 6:06 PM, an officer reported that a 32 year old male slapped his wife 6-7 times and pinned her down on the bed.  She was able to get up and walked out of the apartment and called the police. Officers contacted the male and took him into custody without incident. After booking, the male was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Petty Theft- 6800 Block of Hagen Blvd.
At 7:47 PM, an officer reported that an unknown suspect stole the victim’s garbage bin from in front of the house.

Grand Theft– 10636 San Pablo Avenue (24 hour fitness)
At 9:35 PM, an officer reported the victim went into 24 hour fitness and placed her wallet and cellphone in one of the lockers, but did not put a lock on the locker.  An unknown suspect went into the locker and removed the wallet and cell phone and fled.  The cellphone later pinged in Emeryville.  The credit cards were used at Target in Emeryville.

April 26th
Shoplifting – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreen’s):
At 11:00 AM, an officer reports two unidentified suspects entered Walgreen’s, filled their backpacks with $300-400 worth of toothbrushes and toothpaste, and left without paying.

Lost License Plate – 5900 block of San Diego St:
At 10:11 AM, an officer reports the rear license plate from a 1997 Honda CR-V was lost or stolen.

Animal Cruelty/Battery – BART path TRO of Safeway
At 7:43 PM an officer reported that the victim was walking on the BART path when the suspect approached and asked her a question.  The victim ignored the suspect and the suspect swung her jacket at the victim hitting her face causing redness to her ear.  The suspect then kicked a dog that was in possession of a second person who was nearby.  The suspect was last seen walking away towards Walgreens.

Shoplifting – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross)
At 7:08 PM, hours an officer reported the suspect entered the store and selected $200.00 worth of merchandise and left without paying for the items.
