The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... McDowell County in western North Carolina... Southeastern Mitchell County in western North Carolina... Caldwell County in western North Carolina... Avery County in western North Carolina... Burke County in western North Carolina...

* Until 745 PM EDT.

* At 655 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Sugar Grove to 8 miles west of Marion, moving east at 30 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to trees and power lines.

* Locations impacted include... Lenoir, Morganton, Marion, Spruce Pine, Newland, Gamewell, Blowing Rock In Caldwell County, Glen Alpine, Old Fort and Banner Elk.

* AFFECTED AREAS: AVERY, NC ... BURKE, NC ... CALDWELL, NC ... MCDOWELL, NC ... MITCHELL, NC

Instructions:

A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 800 PM EDT for western North Carolina. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. If on or near Lake James, get away from the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 15 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
