Coronavirus (COVID-19) Seven Hundred, Ninety-Second Update, Sunday, May 8, 2022
Albany County’s COVID-19 dashboard reported today that there were 192 new positive cases overnight in the County, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 68,469 positive cases. The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases decreased from 220.8 to 215.6 cases. The number of County residents in the hospital overnight due to COVID-19 symptoms increased by one to 53 patients, with three patients in the ICU. The County’s pandemic death toll remained at 553.
The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 119,609 tests Statewide were 9,840 or 7.9% positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 7.2%. The Capital Region had 4,520 tests of which 551 or 12.2% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 11.8%. The County had 1,180 tests of which 129 or 11.2% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 11.8%.
The State’s COVID-19 dashboard reported the State’s positive rate for tests yesterday (7.94%), hospitalizations (2,164, -29), new COVID-19 hospital admissions (400), ICU patients (197, +9), intubations (82, -1), and deaths (10).
Governor Kathy Hochul wrote this afternoon on Twitter:
A comparison of data reported on the past two Mother’s Days and today finds increased hospitalizations today (53, 28, 21) and also much higher seven-day infection rates (11.8%, 1.5%, 1.4%). Two years ago, the State was starting a phased reopening, and last year, the State had lifted most capacity restrictions. This year, despite the CDC’s map showing a “high” community rate in Albany County and most of the State, there are almost no COVID-19 restrictions imposed by either the State or County, including the wearing of facemasks in indoor public places.
On this Mother’s Day, please consider supporting the Guilderland Food Pantry in its “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” campaign to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry. Since last September, the Pantry has seen a 23% increase in the numbers of individuals served, meals provided, and client visits. The Pantry provided 21,357 meals to 1,316 individuals, including 639 children, and 452 seniors. Each week, the Pantry also provides meals to 65 students in six schools through the Backpack program.
With continuing high inflation and gas prices, the Pantry’s need has never been greater. You can help support the “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” campaign by mail or online. You can also reach the Pantry at (518) 930-1001 or by e-mail at [email protected]
I wish all moms, stepmoms, grandmothers, and their families a joyful and restful Mother’s Day.
I hope that you are enjoying a relaxing weekend.
Thank you for staying safe and calm.
