The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito May 3rd to May 5th, 2022.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

May 3rd

Battery – 9937 San Pablo Ave (Crown Bar)
An officer reports the victim involved in a bar fight around 1:00 AM this morning.  The victim went home and went to sleep, but his mother insisted he report the incident to police when he woke up with a black eye, so he came to the Police Department at 5:45 AM to make a report.  Later in the day, when he had a chance to remember more details, the victim again contacted the officer and advised a stun gun was used against him after he punched out the window of an Uber vehicle the suspect entered after the initial fight.  Video from Crown Bar was not immediately available, but will be reviewed to determine the full story.  The investigation continues.

Battery / Petty Theft / Damage Telecommunication Device to Prevent 911 Call – 6500 block of Portola Dr
Officer reports at approximately 9:00 AM this morning, a 25 year old El Cerrito woman slapped and punched her mother several times during an argument, then took her cell phone away when she tried to call 911.  The suspect ran away with the phone prior to police arrival.

Commercial Burglary- 6300 Block of Potrero Ave.
At approximately 4:38 AM, officers were dispatched to an audible alarm. Upon arrival officers located a shattered glass door. During the investigation, officers discovered a laptop was taken.
 
May 4th

Commercial Burglary Attempt – 11800 San Pablo Ave (El Cerrito Pet Hospital):
Officer reports sometime last week an unidentified suspect stacked patio chairs at the rear of the business to get over the patio fence, then ripped all the window screens and shattered one of the windows. It did not appear entry was made, and the business did not report the incident until today when the officer was on site for an unrelated investigation.

Shoplift- 11565 San Pablo Ave. (Ross)
At 7:57 PM, an officer reported two suspects stole approximately $900 worth of men’s clothing and fled the business.
 
May 5th

Attempt Grand Theft-  11720 San Pablo Ave.
At 6:45 PM, an officer reported an unknown suspect attempted to steal the catalytic converter from the victim’s 2004 Toyota Prius. The theft occurred in between 5/4 @ 10:00 PM and 5/5 @ 6:00 PM.
