SUMMARY: On Saturday, May 7, 2022, at approximately 2:17 pm, deputies working an event at Calico Ghost Town contacted a camper, Monica Martin. While speaking with Martin, they observed a male, later identified as Brad Tuers, run northeast into the desert area. The deputies discovered Tuers had three outstanding felony warrants for his arrest.
At approximately 3:48 p.m., deputies saw Martin’s vehicle and a dirt bike parked at the intersection of Interstate 15 and Calico Road. Deputies parked behind Martin’s vehicle and saw Tuers exit the passenger side and run into the desert. One of the deputies caught up to Tuers and saw him reaching for his waistband, then hold an unknown object in his hand. As the deputy attempted to handcuff Tuers, Martin jumped on the deputy’s back, attempting to free Tuers from custody. The other deputy was able to detain Martin.
A loaded, un-serialized Glock style handgun, also known as a “ghost gun,” was recovered where Tuers was taken into custody. Tuers was arrested for his outstanding felony warrants and felon in possession of a firearm. Martin was arrested for obstructing an Officer, taking a person from custody by riot, and battery on emergency personnel. Martin and Tuers were transported and booked at High Desert Detention Center.
