Crime Blotter for the Week of May 1 - May 7, 2022

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of May 01, 2022– May 07, 2022.        
 
May 01, 2022

  • Grand Theft Vehicle/Domestic Violence:
2200 Block of Citrus View Avenue. On 05/01/22 at 6:00 pm the victim and suspect who are in a dating relationship were involved in an argument over relationship issues. During the argument the suspect pushed the victim to the ground and grabbed the victim’s phone, wallet, and car keys. The victim attempted to retrieve her property and a struggle ensued. The suspect dropped the wallet and phone but proceeded outside with the victim’s car keys. The suspect took the victims 2006 blue Acura RSX without the permission of the victim. Vehicle recovered, suspect outstanding.

  • Grand Theft:
1430 Mountain Avenue (7-Eleven).  On 05/03/22 at 1:15 pm a male Hispanic in his 40’s wearing a blue flannel and black pants, took the victims cell phone that was left unattended on the counter. The suspect left the location on a bicycle in an unknown direction. The victim used the app find my iPhone and tracked it to Wal-Mart (1600 Mountain Avenue) where he observed the suspect leaving the store. He followed the suspect who entered a eastbound train from the Duarte Metro station. The victim recovered his phone, which was left inside a bathroom stall inside Walmart, minus his identification and credit cards that were stored with the phone. Surveillance video available.
  • Grand Theft Vehicle:
1935 Delford Avenue. On 05/03/22 at 1:41 am suspect unknown wearing a white hat was observed on the victim’s video surveillance opening the door to his unlocked parked vehicle a silver 2017 Ford Flex with car keys inside. The suspect fled the area in an unknow direction. Vehicle Recovered by LAPD-Rampart.
 
May 04, 2022
  • Burglary (Residential):
1400 Block of Santo Domingo Avenue. On 05/04/22 between 3:10 pm and 4:40 pm suspect(s) unknown entered the victims apartment while she was out and stole money from her purse. No forced entry and location not ransacked.  Loss was approximately $60. No surveillance video.
  • Burglary (commercial):
1418 Huntington Drive (J & A’s CafĂ©).  Between 05/03/22 9:00 pm and 05/04/22 5:30 am suspect(s) unknown shattered the front door to the location and stole some change from a bowl located under a counter.  Location was not ransacked, and no other items stolen. Loss was approximately $40 and approximately $700 in damages. No surveillance video.
  • Burglary (commercial):
1362 Huntington Drive (Umebana).  On 05/04/22 at 1:58 am two male Hispanic adult suspects were observed on video surveillance shattering the front door to the location and entering the business. The suspects went directly for the register and stole it and its contents. Location was not ransacked, and no other items stolen. Loss was approximately $250 and approximately $350 in damages.  Surveillance video available.
  • Burglary (Vehicle):
1730 Huntington Drive (Andres Duarte Terrace).  On 05/04/22 at 4:25 am two unknown suspects were observed on video surveillance walking through the parking lot checking for unlocked vehicles. The suspects opened the door to the victims 2016 Toyota Rav4 and stole her handicap placard. Loss was approximately $40. Surveillance video available.
  • Grand Theft Vehicle:
900 Block of Highland Avenue. On 05/04/22 between 5:30 am and 7:30 am suspect(s) unknown stole the victims parked vehicle a green 1994 Ford Aerostar.  No surveillance video available. Vehicle outstanding.
 
May 05, 2022
  • Grand theft:
1500 Block of 3rd Street. Between 05/03/22  5:00 pm and 05/05/22 4:20 am suspect(s) unknown stole the catalytic converter to the victims parked vehicle a white 2017 Nissan NV200. Loss was approximately $1,200. No surveillance video available.
  • Grand Theft Vehicle:
900 Block of Highland Avenue. On 05/05/22 between 8:50 am and 12:10 pm suspect(s) unknown stole the victims parked vehicle a red 1993 GMC 1500. No surveillance video available. Vehicle recovered.
 
May 06, 2022
  • Domestic Violence:
1000 Block of Kellwil Way. On 05/06/22 at 8:45 am the victim and her husband were involved in an argument over marital issues. The victim walked away and was followed by the suspect and their son. The suspect and son held the victim down as she attempted to call “911” from her cell phone. As she was being held down, the suspect punched her once in the face with a closed fist. After several minutes went by the suspect and the son took the phone and let the victim up, where she ran outside and to a neighbor’s house where she was able to call for help. Suspect arrested.
 
May 07, 2022
  • Grand Theft Vehicle:
1088 Huntington Drive (T-Mobile). On 05/07/22 at 7:36 pm the suspect a heavy-set male Hispanic adult wearing dark blue jeans, grey hoodie, red hat, and a gaiter mask entered the store and walked directly over to the iPhone display case. The suspect immediately started cutting the security wires to 3 iPhones and an iPad. The suspect is seen exiting the location with the stolen items without attempting to purchase them and out of view. Loss was approximately $2,600. Surveillance video available.
 
CRIME PREVENTION TIPS
 
How to help prevent a Carjacking:
  • Keep doors locked and windows shut.
  • Don't stop to assist a disabled motorist. Instead, contact a service station or police.
  • When stopped at a light, leave enough room between you and the car in front of you in case you have to drive away.
  • Be suspicious of anyone approaching the car with fliers, asking for change or directions. Be ready to leave carefully.
  • If you think you are being followed, drive to an area with lots of lights and people. If possible, drive to the nearest law enforcement office.
