This morning, at approximately 8:10 am, a call for service was received regarding a male juvenile seen throwing a possible firearm into the bushes prior to entering a bus en route to La Mesa Jr. High School.
Deputies immediately located the bus, however were unable to locate any juveniles matching a potential suspect description on the bus. As deputies continued to conduct a search of the area, a “soft” lockdown was placed on La Mesa Jr. High School as precaution
A short period later, deputies were able to locate juveniles matching a description provided. A search was conducted and they were not found to be in possession of any contraband. A search of the vicinity was also conducted in which an orange toy water gun was recovered.
Once the threat was confirmed non-credible, the lockdown was lifted. No arrests were made, nor are any suspects outstanding. We continue to encourage our community to report any suspicious activity you may observe. We will be sure to thoroughly investigate.
