SUEZ to conduct test shutdown of Weehawken/Hoboken Interconnection

On Tuesday, May 17, SUEZ technicians will be working in coordination with the City to conduct a controlled closure of the Weehawken/Hoboken Interconnection, starting at 10 a.m.

This test shutdown is in preparation for a forthcoming repair to the Jersey City/Hoboken Interconnection later this year. This interconnection is the primary main feeding water to Hoboken customers. Engineers are proactively testing the systems now to mitigate any concerns surrounding that repair.

As a result of this controlled flow reversal within the water system, residents may encounter low water pressure and/or discoloration of water. In the event of discolored water, residents are advised to simply flush their pipes until the water becomes clear—ideally from the lowest level of the building, to avoid drawing discolored water further into the home or business.

In an effort to stabilize water pressure within the system, hydrant jetting may occur at a number of locations throughout uptown Hoboken.

SUEZ and the City of Hoboken will be providing updates on the status of the test shutdown, as crews and the Office of Emergency Management work diligently to ensure minimal disruption to water service.

Thank you for your patience, as we continue to work toward improving vital water infrastructure throughout our area.
