Indio Resident Succumbs to Injuries Sustained in Collision with a Road Grader in Twentynine Palms

LOCATION: Lear Avenue / Two Mile Road, City of Twentynine Palms
VICTIM(S): 20-year-old resident of Indio
SUMMARY: On Thursday, May 12, 2022, at approximately 10:38 a.m., deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Morongo Basin Station responded to Lear Avenue and Two-Mile Road for a two-vehicle traffic collision.
Deputies discovered a Subaru wagon, traveling south on Lear Avenue, collided into the rear of a Caterpillar road grader, who was stopped in the southbound lane of Lear Avenue, waiting to make a left turn onto Two Mile Road. The driver of the Subaru was pronounced deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The driver of the road grader did not sustain injuries.
The Morongo Basin Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) responded, and the investigation is ongoing. The victim’s identification is being withheld, pending notification of next of kin by the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office.
