INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision
LOCATION: State Highway 18 / Central Road
INVOLVED PARTY (1): Elaine Macdonald, 36-years-old, resident of Lucerne Valley
INVOLVED VEHICLE (1): 2004 Ford Explorer
INVOLVED PARTY (2): Kevin Barricman, 47-years-old, resident of Apple Valley
INVOLVED VEHICLE (2): 2019 Mack Pinnacle
SUMMARY: On Saturday, May 14, 2022, at approximately 12:06 AM, deputies from the Apple Valley Station, rescue personnel from the Apple Valley Fire Protection District and American Medical Response responded to a traffic collision involving a Ford Explorer and a Mack Pinnacle semi truck, at the intersection of State Highway 18 and Central Road in the Town of Apple Valley.
Upon arrival, deputies determined a Ford Explorer, driven by Elaine Macdonald, was traveling north on Central Road at the intersection with State Highway 18. The Mack truck, driven by Kevin Barricman, was traveling east on State Highway 18, approaching the intersection with Central Road.
During the investigation, it was determined the Ford Explorer failed to stop at the red signal and drove north into the intersection where the Mack truck broadsided the Ford Explorer. As a result of the collision, Macdonald was ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries.
An investigator from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T) arrived and is conducting an investigation. The intersection of State Highway 18 and Central Road was closed for approximately seven hours while investigators processed the scene for evidence and interviewed witnesses.
An investigator from the Apple Valley Station Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) also arrived and conducted a scene investigation. It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
