Community Alert-Phone Scammers 
On 05-13-22 a citizen received a phone call about a family member being held in jail. In order for the family member to be released from jail, the person on the phone needed cash. Arrangements were made over the phone for someone to pick up $5,000 from their home. The suspect later arrived at the residence driving a dark gray Dodge Challenger (see picture of video surveillance).
The suspect who gets out of the vehicle and collects the money is described as:
a white, male, about 40-50 years of age, clean shaven, heavier set, wearing a baseball cap with a reflective safety vest.
The Janesville Police Department would like to remind the public of current phone scammers. Phone scammers most often impersonate a government agency in an attempt to collect some form of money or gift card. Scammers often pretend to be someone you trust, such as a government official, a family member, a charity, or a company you do business with. Don’t send money or give out personal information in response to an unexpected request whether it comes in as a text message, a phone call, or an email. Legitimate businesses provide employees with proper workplace identification. When speaking to people who you do not know, ask them for any type of business identification.
