| Narrative: |
On 5/4/22, the victim was working as a clerk at a local 7-Eleven convenience store. A patron in the store, later identified as Victor Franco, walked into a restricted area for employees only and stole the victim’s wallet. Franco fraudulently used the victim’s debit card in Agoura and at a gas station in Thousand Oaks. Deputies from the Thousand Oaks Police Station responded to the gas station and watched video surveillance. The deputies identified the suspect as Franco, who they knew from multiple law enforcement contacts. The deputies contacted Franco at his encampment in Thousand Oaks and arrested him for identity theft.
On 5/6/22, detectives with the East Valley Investigations Forgery / Fraud Unit were notified of the incident and assumed control of the investigation. A search warrant was written for Franco’s encampment and detectives subsequently found the victim’s stolen property, which was later returned to her.
On 5/10/22, the District Attorney’s Office elected to file the following charges against Franco:
PC 530.5(a) – Identity theft
PC 459 - Second Degree Commercial Burglary.
Franco is currently in custody at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility and his bail is set at $75,000.00.
