DATE/TIME: May 16, 2022, 9:54 a.m.
INCIDENT: Resisting an Officer
LOCATION: 63600 block of Twentynine Palms Highway
SUSPECT(S): Christy Yacona, 49-year-old Hesperia Resident
SUMMARY: On Monday, May 16, 2022, deputies with the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station were notified of a barricaded subject inside an office area at the Joshua Tree Government building, in the 63600 block of Twentynine Palms Highway.
Upon arrival, deputies found Christy Yacona inside a first-floor area, refusing to leave. It is believed Yacona entered the building over the weekend and remained unnoticed until employees arrived for work Monday morning. When deputies attempted to have Yacona come out she refused and threatened the deputies. Personnel with Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division (SWAT) responded to assist. After several hours of negotiating, SWAT personnel made entry and took Yacona into custody without further incident.
Yacona was transported to a local hospital for mental health evaluation. The report will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review and consideration of charges.
