Coronavirus (COVID-19) Eight Hundred Third Update, Thursday, May 19, 2022
Albany County’s COVID-19 Dashboard reported that there were 255 new positive cases overnight in the County, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 70,807 positive cases. The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases increased from 224.4 to 229.8 cases. The number of County residents in the hospital overnight due to COVID-19 symptoms decreased by five patients to now 47 patients, with two patients in the ICU. County DOH reported the death of a County resident overnight which raised the County’s pandemic death toll to 556. The County Executive will provided details about this death in his update tomorrow.
The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 126,143 tests Statewide were 11,199 or 8.5% positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 7.7%. The Capital Region had 6,678 tests of which 810 or 12.0% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 12.6%. The County had 1,488 tests of which 209 or 13.7% were positive, with the seven-day average remaining at 13.7%.
In a press release, Governor Kathy Hochul reported the State’s positive rate for tests yesterday (8.51%), hospitalizations (2,658, -47), new COVID-19 hospital admissions (487), ICU patients (253, +6), intubations (99, +3), and deaths (19). The Governor also announced that the public rail in the New York City area is continuing to show improvements with pandemic-area records for daily trips set this week for the NYC subway, Metro-North and Long Island Railroad
CDC’s Advisory Committee agreed this afternoon with the FDA’s decision yesterday to recommend Pfizer’s booster dose for children ages 5 to 11. The committee debated whether the recommendation should be either “may” or “should” receive the booster and voted for the stronger endorsement because of the booster’s benefits. The CDC Director is expected to adopt the recommendation today or tomorrow.
The Albany Pine Bush Preserve’s Lupine Fest 2022 is this Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
