The National Weather Service in Grand Junction has issued a Red Flag Warning for gusty winds, low relative humidity and dry fuels, which is in effect from 8 AM this morning to 9 PM MDT this evening.

* AFFECTED AREA...In Colorado, Fire Weather Zone 207 Southwest Colorado Lower Forecast Area, Fire Weather Zone 294 Southwest Colorado Upper West Forecast Area and mainly southern portions of Fire Weather Zone 295 in Southwest Colorado Upper East Forecast Area. In Utah, southern areas of Fire Weather Zone 491 in Southeast Utah.

* WINDS...Southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts 35 to 45 mph. Winds will turn West then Northwest with the cold frontal passage with a continued threat of gusts over 25 mph through the afternoon.

* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...14 to 19 percent.

* IMPACTS...Conditions will become favorable for easy ignition and rapid spread of fires due to low relative humidity and strong gusty winds.

* AFFECTED AREAS: SOUTHWEST COLORADO LOWER FORECAST AREA ... SOUTHWEST COLORADO UPPER WEST FORECAST AREA ... SOUTHWEST COLORADO UPPER EAST FORECAST AREA ... SOUTHEAST UTAH

Instructions:

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. A cold frontal passage is also expected to turn winds from Southwest to West and Northwest through the day.
