Santa Rosa Police Department Investigating Sixth Homicide of 2022. Detectives Need Community's Assistance to Identify Suspects

On May 22, 2022, at 1:33 a.m., the Santa Rosa Police Department was notified of a shooting in the 2300-block of Kenton Court.  Upon arrival Officers located one victim with a single gunshot wound in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. Officers immediately began to provide the victim with medical assistance and requested emergency medical personnel to the scene.  Once EMS arrived, they took over medical care. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on scene.
Detectives from the SRPD Violent Crime Team and patrol officers identified and interviewed witnesses. Field and Evidence Technicians processed the crime scene for evidence. It was learned that an unknown vehicle approached the victim. One or more occupants of the vehicle said something to the victim and his friends. At least one shot was then fired by the suspect and stuck the victim. The motive for the shooting is still under investigation.  The victim was a 28-year-old male, and Santa Rosa Resident.  The victim’s name will not be released at this time pending notification of next of kin. Detectives are still trying to obtain a description of the suspect(s) and the suspect vehicle. When descriptions are available, they will be released to the public.
Detectives are actively investigating this incident and are asking for our community’s help.  Anyone with information about the homicide is encouraged to contact SRPD through our online Tip Line:  If you live in the neighborhood where the shooting occurred, please check surveillance cameras for any videos, photographs, or information that would help to identify the suspected shooter(s) and their vehicle. You can also provide information by contacting the SRPD Violent Crimes Team at (707) 543-3590.
A reward up to $2,500 is being offered by the Sonoma County Alliance Community Engagement and Safety Rewards Fund.  The reward is for information leading to the arrest of the suspect(s) responsible.
This is Santa Rosa’s sixth homicide of 2022 and the fifth homicide involving a firearm. SRPD is working to address the rise in illegal firearms on the streets of Santa Rosa and unlawful firearm possession. The Santa Rosa Police Department seized 170 firearms in 2021, including 45 “ghost guns.” The majority of seizures occurred from intelligence-led policing and proactive enforcement by SRPD patrol officers, the Special Enforcement Team and detectives. We know this effort will take a community-wide approach and SRPD is working with the Violence Prevention Partnership to continue engaging our community regarding these issues.

Media inquiries may be directed to Sergeant Christopher Mahurin at (707) 975-0129 or [email protected].  SRPD case number 22-5638.
