The Janesville Police Department awarded two Chief's Commendations last week.
This award is given by the Chief of Police to any employee who performs a particularly noteworthy act of service. The action of the employee must be beyond the normal expectation of duty and based upon a determined and intelligent performance. Sergeant Jimmy Holford III and Sergeant Robert Perkins II received Letters of Commendation for thier actions listed below.
On Tuesday, April 26th, 2022 at 04:32 pm officers were sent to Precision Drawn Metals at 1345 Plainfield Avenue. The incident was called in as a man shot by another employee. The initial details led to two possible scenarios. The incident was a homicide or active shooter. They utilized their training, experience, and leadership skills to mitigate a life-threatening event in real-time.
Sergeant Holford was one of the first to arrive on scene. He went directly to the incident location and began to approach. He stayed calm and provided direction to responding officers. Sergeant Holford was confident and showed a great example of teamwork; his leadership kept others calm. Sergeant Holford's attention to detail, leadership, and rapid decision-making helped lead to the identification of the suspect and apprehension of the suspect within an hour of the initial call.
Sergeant Perkins was the hub of communication and oversaw the deployment of resources. He was confident and showed great leadership. Sergeant Perkins showed attention to detail, provided updated information, and worked with officers to gather information that led to the identification of the suspect. His efforts aided in outside jurisdictions locating the suspect within an hour of the initial call.
Both Sergeant Holford III and Sergeant Perkins II showed great dedication and performance. Their efforts are deeply appreciated by the City of Janesville.
