In a press release today, Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy reported that there were 100 new positive cases overnight in the County, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 71,640 positive cases. The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases decreased from 207.6 to 189.8 cases. The number of County residents in the hospital overnight due to COVID-19 symptoms remained at 43 patients, with five patients in the ICU. The County reported that there were no deaths of a County resident overnight and that the County’s pandemic death remained at 562. The County Executive reported that the five deaths since his last report on Friday were a woman in her 40’s, a woman in her 80’s, and three men in their 80’s.
The County Executive added:
It saddens me to have to report so many county residents losing their lives to COVID complications since the last update on Friday, and my condolences go out to their families and loved ones. These individuals are unfortunate reminders that this virus is still a danger for many, but especially for those who are not vaccinated, and those with underlying health conditions and weakened immune systems. I continue to urge people to stay vigilant, to take precautions whenever possible, and to get vaccinated and boosted if you haven’t already.
State DOH reported that the County’s rate for one vaccine dose as of yesterday was 81.4% of the County’s total population and 91.8% of the adult population, and the County’s rate for full-vaccination was 74.4% of the total population, and for boosters was 74.7% of the eligible population. The State’s rate for one dose was 90.5% for the total population and 95.0% of adults, and the State’s rate for full-vaccination was 77.3% for the total population, and for boosters was 55.5% of the eligible population.
The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 57,135 tests Statewide were 5,990 or 10.5% positive, with the seven-day average remaining at 8.0%. The Capital Region had 2,358 tests of which 248 or 11.2% were positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 11.5%. The County had 598 tests of which 65 or 11.0% were positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 12.7%.
In a press release today, Governor Kathy Hochul reported the State’s positive rate for tests yesterday (10.45%), and the current numbers for COVID-19 hospitalizations (2,724, +137), new hospital admissions (394), ICU patients (237, +5), intubations (96, +4), and deaths (24).
The CDC reported today that Omicron subvariant BA.2.12.1 is now the dominant version (58%) among new COVID-19 cases in the country U.S. coronavirus cases. It also reported that for the first time since February, the nation is now averaging over 100,000 new positive cases per day and that the amount is likely much higher because infections are not reported. There are now nearly 25,000 COVID-19 hospitalizations, an increase of 25% since early May.
I thank Scouts, leaders, and parents who gathered at Tawasentha Park for the annual Conservation Service Day on Saturday, May 7. The event was held on one day, and did not include the usual overnight camping. The event involved 33 scouts and 29 adults from Troops 50, 264, and 1083, and Packs 50 and 1083 who collectively performed 248.5 hours of service including clearing and pruning trees on the new trail at the Winter Recreation Area, placing wood chips and improving drainage on the upper trail loops, and removing invasive species and winter debris at Tawasentha Park, improving the appearance of landscaping at the Frederick House, and removing chairs and benches from the stage at the Guilderland Performing Arts Center.
These volunteer services are immensely helpful in preparing Town facilities for heavy summer usage, and gets our outdoor spaces ready for the upcoming summer recreation camps. These projects are the latest in the long collaborative history of scouts working with Parks staff on important improvements that are instrumental in expanding access to outdoor activities. On behalf of the Town, I thank the scouts for their public service.
Thank you for staying safe and calm.
