The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito May 20th to May 22nd, 2022.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
May 20th
Vandalism – Central Ave. / Carlson Blvd.
An officer reports that the victim and an unknown suspect were involved in a road rage incident on March 29th. During the incident, the suspect threw a steel bolt at the victim’s car, striking the hood.
Auto Burglary – Jamba Juice, 5030 EC Plaza.
Between 12:10 pm and 12:30 pm, an unknown suspect shattered the front passenger window of the victim’s vehicle and stole a backpack containing a laptop.
Robbery – Mr. Pickles, 10810 San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 1:34 pm, officers responded to the report of a subject trying to steal the tip jar at Mr. Pickles. The manager struggled with the subject and was able to recover the tip jar. The subject then grabbed a knife and threatened staff. The employees fled to the kitchen and the subject left with property belonging to the business. Responding officers located the subject and he was safely taken into custody. The suspect, a 39-year-old, Oakland man was arrested on robbery charges and a parole violation warrant. He was booked into the Contra Costa County jail.
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 900 block of Shevlin Dr.
An officer located a Dodge Ram pickup that had been reported stolen to the El Cerrito Police Department on May 11th.
Assault with a Deadly Weapon – Blake Street at Liberty Street;
At 10:42 pm officers were sent to the report of a person that was bleeding in the roadway in the intersection. At least one witness called to report hearing someone yelling for help and then hearing a gunshot. When Officers arrived they found a person in the roadway suffering from severe injuries. It was determined that the victim had been beaten with a firearm and that firearm had been discharged during the assault. The victim was transported to a hospital to be treated for their injuries.
May 21st
Residential Burglary – 400 block of Ashbury Ave.
Sometime overnight between the 18th and 19th, an unknown suspect entered the victim’s unlocked garage and stole a bicycle.
May 22nd
Battery – Cutting Blvd. at Kearney Street;
At 7:19 pm officers were sent to the report that someone had been assaulted. When they arrived they found the victim who had been assaulted by the suspect thirty minutes prior and the suspect had fled the scene in a vehicle.
