Although there are no known threats to any schools in San Mateo, the San Mateo Police Department has taken numerous steps in an abundance of caution. We have reached out to the various school districts in our jurisdiction and to the Department of Education to discuss safety plans and proactive measures. SMPD patrol officers are conducting frequent and high visibility passing checks of all schools. SMPD Youth Service Officers are checking in and walking the various campuses.

The safety of our children is of the utmost importance, and the San Mateo Police Department takes every step to ensure the safety of our students. When an emergency occurs at one of the public schools in San Mateo, an immediate action response, “The Big Five” is initiated by our department or school personnel. We would like to remind parents to stay informed of the San Mateo County Big Five Safety Protocols, so that all our parents know how to respond in the event of an emergency.
